Paparazzi in Taiwan.

As we know, there are many paparazzi everywhere in the world, including those in Taiwan. They not only stalk in and trespass on celebrities’ privacy, but also use their telephoto lens to take the shot without their admission. It, without doubt, seriously perturbs one’s privacy and even his life.

The need of celebrities and their family for protection against paparazzi has become a common issue in Taiwan; For instance we often see news about some movie star charge a gossip-spreading magazine corporate (who unveil) unveiling his photos and spreading untrue reports; one of those cases like the litigation from Jay Chou(周杰倫) to the Next Media(壹週刊).

Of course, we don’t want to see the similar tragedy like the mournful death of Princess Diana, having traffic accident while her car was being pursued by paparazzi, as happens in Taiwan. However, reforming this kind of negative side of media culture doesn't seem easy at once; even so, we still have to face the difficulty.

First, if politicians propose laws to restrict news from gathering in some circumstances and this legislation can also protect celebrities too much and come against press’ right for reporting the celebrities’ personal affairs, that would be at worst harmful to legitimate news helping people’s right to know.

Second, as many say, the gossip culture does prevail over the whole Taiwan area. As a matter of fact, the reason why reporters become wild and out of control is submissive to the extensive market demand. People prefer to discuss some famous figures’ scandals rather than talk serious topics in which people may feel less interested. It cannot be changed easily and immediately.

Finally, what is concerned, it is also necessary to think about celebrities’ bad behaviors for counter-side-balanced thinking. As a famous figure, he/she may not be aware, that no matter what he/she says and does will be noticed by the public in many cases; they should pay attention. As long as celebrities respect and cherish themselves, even though there are many powerful paparazzi (which exist) existing; there are no reasons to make scandals that can be dug and reported by any effort.
